When visiting Alcatraz Island in the Golden Gate Recreation Area, it is interesting to see how nature is having her way in the time since the federal government closed the penitentiary there in 1963. This particular building was originally called the Alcatraz Post Exchange (1910-1933) when it was a military prison. Once the federal government took over the prison facility, the building was dubbed The Officers Club, but soon was known as The Social Club as prison staff and families centered their social activities there until 1963. Nature has a way of taking back what once she lost. This photo focused on what was lost but what is gained.
